Apple announced yesterday evening that third beta for iOS 13 and Co. In addition to some bug fixes and performance optimizations, a few new features were also added - including FaceTime attention correction.
The new feature is called "FaceTime Attention Correction" and ensures that eye contact is maintained during FaceTime calls. If the feature is activated, the system makes the user look as if they are looking directly into the camera in order to maintain eye contact. In reality, however, they are not looking into the lens itself but at the image of the other person in the corner of their screen. The feature is currently only available on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max under the third beta of iOS 13 and can be switched on or off in the settings in the FaceTime area.
It is not yet known why the function has been limited to just two iPhone models at the moment. To achieve the effect, image manipulation is necessary. This process may require high computing power, which is why only the latest devices are suitable for it. The feature was predicted by a developer back in 2017 - but the introduction of the impressive function was not expected before 2020.
