WhatsApp recently tested some useful features in the area of group calls and archives that were previously available in beta. The update has now been released for all users - but not all features are available immediately.
We recently reported that the call screen in WhatsApp has been redesigned to look very similar to FaceTime and display all the people who are participating. From there, users can invite others to join the call and even call a person again if they were unable to answer the call directly.
When can you join a group call? If you are temporarily not participating in a group call and you open WhatsApp again after some time and the group call is still in progress, the app will present you with a notification that allows you to easily join the conversation.
The release notes for WhatsApp version 2.21.140 also mention that archived chats will now remain muted even when new messages arrive. The update also shows sticker suggestions when the user writes a message. Below you can find the update description in full.
WhatsApp version 2.21.140:
- You can now leave and rejoin active group calls from the Calls tab.
- Archived chats will now remain archived and muted when new messages arrive. You can change this under Settings > Chats > Keep chats archived.
- Sticker suggestions make it easier to find relevant downloaded stickers when composing a message.
Important: These features will not be available to all users immediately after update According to the company, the new features will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks. WhatsApp version 2.21.140 is required for this. (Photo by Unsplash / Dimitri Karastelev)
