Microsoft's Project xCloud is expected to be available for smartphones and tablets in September appearHowever, the game streaming service linked to Xbox Game Pass will not be available on iOS. The reason for this is Apple.
Xbox Game Pass and its xCloud streaming feature offer access to hundreds of games that can be streamed to mobile devices. But iPhone and iPad users won't be able to enjoy it because Apple won't allow the application in the App Store. Cupertino justifies this decision by saying that it can't review every game available through the service.
"Same guidelines for all developers"
In a statement to Business Insider, an Apple spokesperson explained that the restrictions are intended to protect consumers and create a level playing field for all developers. text:
"The App Store was created to be a safe and trusted place for customers to discover and download apps, and a great business opportunity for all developers. Before they go on our store, all apps are reviewed against the same set of guidelines designed to protect customers and provide a fair and level playing field for developers.
"Our customers enjoy great apps and games from millions of developers, and game services can absolutely launch on the App Store as long as they follow the same guidelines that apply to all developers, including submitting games individually for review and showing up in charts and search results. In addition to the App Store, developers can choose to reach all iPhone and iPad users on the web using Safari and other browsers on the App Store."
There were already restrictions during the beta
Project xCloud will be included in the Xbox Game Pass and will cost around $15. Users can stream games on their PC, Xbox, smartphone or tablet. There will be around 100 titles to choose from initially. The service was basically designed to be like the Netflix for games. Microsoft launched a beta on iOS some time ago, knowing full well that it would be difficult to get Apple approval for the app. The entire beta was very limited, so the user experience was different than on Android. So anyone who is seriously interested in the new offering will either have to limit themselves to PC or Xbox or use an Android device. One thing is certain - the iPhone and iPad are definitely out.
