Apple released macOS Monterey 12.1 and Co. for all users worldwide on Monday evening. However, the macOS update will not be equally visible to all users.
Like 9to5Mac reported, not every user will receive the new macOS Monterey 12.1 update. Certain users, especially those with M1 Macs, will not be prompted to download the update in System Preferences. The issue was also reported on the r/MacOS board by Reddit , where users say it seems to affect some M1 Mac users but not others. Additionally, Christina Warren, Senior Cloud Developer Advocate at Microsoft, reports that the installer download from the Mac App Store stops halfway through.
macOS Monterey 12.1: Recovery tool as an aid
Other users have also confirmed this problem, so there is no easy solution for those affected. Reddit users have suggested that particularly impatient users who are suffering from the problem can boot into recovery and reinstall macOS. The recovery tool will download the latest version of macOS. Anyone who chooses the recovery tool method should, however, create a backup beforehand. Apple itself has not yet commented on the issue.
