The short message service Twitter was released for macOS Catalina on October 11th. The first update has now been released.
When it was announced in the summer that Twitter would be making a comeback on the Mac, many fans were over the moon. Apple's Catalyst made it possible - with the help of the tool, developers can port an iPad application directly to the Mac - and Twitter has kept its promise. Now the first major update has been released. A number of errors were fixed in the course of this update. You can find the full release notes verbatim below. (Photo by Rustle / Bigstockphot)
Twitter for Mac version 8.1:
We've made a number of improvements to Twitter. Here are a few highlights specific to Twitter for Mac:
- Fixed: Closing Twitter and quickly reopening it could result in an unusable state of the app.
- Fixed: Scrolling was temporarily paused when closing certain windows with the ESC key.
- Fixed: A secondary click on a username would break the secondary click for the rest of the app session.
- Fixed: Some windows could be dragged by anyone in their UI to move their window. This has been corrected so that only dragging the window's navigation bar will drag the window, with the exception of media windows, which still allow dragging from anywhere in their window.
- Fixed: When navigating Message Requests under the Messages tab, there was no way to back out other than clicking the Messages tab again.
- Fixed: Menu items case did not match macOS pattern.
- Fixed: Fonts and icons are too small. Settings… > Display & Sound options now provide 6 font size options in a wider size range.
- Fixed: Prompt to enable push notifications not showing.
- Fixed: Sharing to Twitter from the App Store now correctly shares the link and not just the Twitter icon image.
- Fixed: Notifications containing media now correctly display the media preview image.
- Improvement: When the Twitter app is in full screen mode, the composer and media viewer use the main window instead of creating new windows.
- Improvement: Added an Accounts menu to make it easier to access multiple account features.
- Improvement: Added navigation commands for timeline navigation to the View menu.
- Improvement: Command+N now works globally.
- Improvement: Command+N now always creates a new tweet composition. Previously, it sometimes started a reply, which could be reached by pressing `R` when viewing a tweet.
- Improvement: Can now drag and drop a video file from a viewfinder window into a tweet composition.
- Improvement: Added support for inserting a video file, animated GIF file, or multiple photo files copied from a Finder window into a tweet comp. Can use Command+V or secondary click and choose Paste.
- Improvement: Supports trackpad and Magic Mouse back movements
- Improvement: Updated the navigate back menu item to show Command+Left Arrow as a keyboard shortcut. Command+[ still works, but Command+Left Arrow is easier for most international keyboards.
