Folder sharing in iCloud Drive is a feature that many users have been wanting for a long time. It was supposed to appear in macOS Catalina and iOS 13 - but Apple seems to need more time.
On Apple's website under the title "New features available with macOS Catalina" various new features are listed - iCloud Drive folder sharing is also included there with a note. Until yesterday evening, the asterisk read "Coming this fall". Apple has now changed the footnote overnight to "Coming in spring". Accordingly, the long-awaited feature will not appear until spring 2020 at the earliest - a reason was of course not given, as there is no further communication about the delay. The corresponding iOS 13 page has not yet been updated - but it can be assumed that the feature will also be a long time coming to the iPhone and iPad. In addition to iCloud Drive folder sharing, a function in Screen Time under macOS Catalina to be missing – communication limit.
How iCloud Drive folder sharing works
The feature allows parents, for example, to control who their child can communicate with and when. According to the footnote, this feature is also not expected to appear until spring 2020 at the earliest. The new folder sharing would have enabled users to share entire folders with friends or colleagues - they could then access the entire contents of the shared folder, similar to Google Drive and Dropbox.
It would also be possible to expand and edit the documents contained therein together. Currently, only individual files can be shared in iCloud Drive - if you want to share more, you either have to resort to other solutions or share each file individually. (Photo by HannaKuprevich / Bigstockphoto)
