Apple released the second beta of macOS Catalina 10.15.5 this evening and rolled out the first public beta of iOS 13.4.5. While the first macOS Catalina 10.15.5 preview only contained bug fixes and system improvements, there were no new features on board. But now something particularly interesting seems to be coming - battery management. According to this, Apple plans to extend the lifespan of MacBook batteries. The new function has already been announced compared to TechCrunch confirmed and explained in more detail. The so-called "Battery Health Management" was developed to extend the overall lifespan of MacBooks by slowing down the chemical aging of the battery.
Function analyzes battery status
The function analyzes the battery status of the respective MacBook and its charging behavior. In some cases, this prevents the battery from being fully charged during charging in order to extend its lifespan. The feature only intervenes when the respective MacBook is connected to the power cable. Various behavioral data is collected, including the frequency of charging, whether the notebook is constantly connected to the power supply, and more. Aside from the analysis, the battery heat is also automatically managed. The results are saved locally and not shared with Apple. Users who are not interested in the feature can of course deactivate it in the system settings under Battery Health Management in the Energy Saving section. (Photo by NZPhotography / Bigstockphoto)
