Yesterday, Apple somewhat surprisingly released the first beta of macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 for registered developers. Now references to three new Mac devices have been discovered in the code.
In macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, Apple has fixed numerous bugs, made improvements, and provided new wallpapers. But the code has more to offer. For example, references to three new Mac devices have now been discovered (via HarckerTech). Within the macOS /System/Library folder, Apple stores a variety of bundle files to identify different Mac models. For example, there are files that refer to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the 2020 27-inch iMac. In fact, these files were one of the first signs that a new 16-inch MacBook Pro would be released in 2019.
macOS Big Sur 11.0.1: Apple Silicon or Intel?

In the first beta version of macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, there are two brand new files here that point to two unreleased Macs. There is also a third file that was present in the 10th beta of macOS 11 Big Sur but went unnoticed until now. The new files are only present in macOS Big Sur:
- MacHardwareTypes-2020f.bundle
- MacHardwareTypes-2020g.bundle
- MacHardwareTypes-2020h.bundle
Unfortunately, it is not possible to filter out further details about the new devices. However, it is safe to assume that these are Apple Silicon devices, as the company announced the transition from Intel back in summer 2020. Apple is currently expected to hold another event on November 17th and unveil at least one new MacBook with the brand new processor.
macOS Big Sur 11 release will take place after the Mac event
Today's discovery fuels these rumors. But beware - rumors say that only one Apple Silicon device will be released this year. Today's discovery could indicate three different devices. It is also possible that all three files refer to one and the same device. At the same time, however, it should not be forgotten that Apple recently entered a series of new Mac devices into the EEC database. This means that at least one new release can definitely be expected soon. With regard to macOS Big Sur, I stick to my prediction from yesterday. It can be assumed that the company will hold back the final version until the event and only release it at the end of the month or shortly before the market launch of the first Apple Silicon Mac.
