Apple released macOS Monterey 12.2 a few days ago. Some Mac users who installed the software update are now suffering from excessive battery drain in sleep mode, which appears to be due to Bluetooth accessories frequently waking the devices.
The problem has been reported in recent days by users in various forums, including Reddit reported. However, it remains unclear how widespread the problem actually is. Affected users report that since updating to macOS 12.2, the battery life of their Mac drops from 100 % to 0 % overnight in sleep mode. Some users have tried to find the cause in the Terminal and found that Bluetooth accessories often cause a "DarkWake from Deep Idle" that causes the Mac to wake up repeatedly, draining the battery.
macOS Monterey 12.2: Disabling Bluetooth helps
The problem seems to occur on both Intel-based devices and M1-based Macs. Users report that the problem stops when Bluetooth is disabled or when all Bluetooth accessories are disconnected from the Mac. This is of course not a permanent solution. But until Apple fixes the problem in a future update, affected users will probably have no other choice. (Photo by mrs.kohanova / Bigstockphoto)
