Flexgate is a fault in the backlight of 2018 MacBook Pro models. If a device is affected, a stage light-like effect occurs in the lower part of the display.
Some 2018 MacBook Pro models suffer from a problem with the flex cable that connects the circuit board to the screen. Repeatedly opening and closing the device can damage the cable in question and lead to an incorrect display of the image. However, Apple now seems to have quietly made a change in the design. According to this, the flex cable is said to have been extended by 2 millimeters. A user noticed this on her MacBook Pro 13". In a detailed post, she reports on the problem and the new feature she discovered. After the information became known, the guys from iFixit took a look at a current 15" model and confirmed the improvement there too. In fact, the flex cable is said to have been extended by 2 millimeters here too.
It remains to be seen whether the new feature will prevent increased wear and tear on the cable in the future. Nevertheless, this 2 millimeter extension could actually have a positive effect on the regular opening and closing of the MacBook Pro. Apple has not yet confirmed the change - and a statement on the subject is still pending.
