As previously reported, a hacker group called REvil is currently trying to blackmail Apple supplier Quanta. The group has released detailed documents showing the logic board of the 2021 MacBook Pro, including details and images of new connectors.
Reports from both Bloomberg and Ming-Chi Kuo have previously suggested that the new MacBook Pro models will have additional ports. The now leaked Documents repeatedly refer to the code names “J314” and “J316,” which, according to Bloomberg, represent the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple Silicon. On the right side, the documents (via 9to5mac) an HDMI port, a USB-C port, and an SD card slot. On the left side, the documents show that there will be a MagSafe port, two USB-C ports, and a headphone jack. This means that the 2021 MacBook Pro will have one less USB-C port than the current model.
MacBook Pro 2021 ransomware leak: Apple investigates the incident
The documents also reveal that the 2021 MacBook Pro will be released without a Touch Bar. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already announced this change. The Touch ID button will be located on the right side of the function bar, similar to the current MacBook Air. In the meantime, REvil is also threatening to publish new leaks if Apple or Quanta do not pay the ransom by May 1st. Apple told The Record that the company is investigating the incident but has nothing to report. Quanta confirmed to Bloomberg that it had suffered an attack, but did not explain whether or how much data was stolen. (Photo by Unsplash / Tianyi Ma)
