As soon as a new Apple product is released, iFixit takes it apart and puts it through its paces. So it was only a matter of time before they took a look at the circuit board of the new MacBook Pro 2019 model. Of course, the focus is on Apple's butterfly keyboard.
Nothing has changed on the outside – and there is nothing new in terms of functions either. The new MacBook Pro with 15″ is still supposed to be a real beast - it can be configured with a maximum of eight processor cores and is supposed to be the fastest of its kind. But what about the new butterfly keyboard? Has Apple finally managed to solve the problem of broken keyboards? Time will tell. But first we can take a closer look at the story thanks to iFixit. The specialists have of course dismantled the laptop and examined the keyboard components - there are changes. The silicone covers are visually very different from one another - the new version is more transparent and smoother than its predecessor, so not as milky.
use of new materials
As a reminder: Each key has a silicone protector - this is responsible, among other things, for reducing typing noise and preventing dust and crumbs from penetrating the interior. As part of an infrared analysis, the specialists determined that the new covers are made of a nylon polymer. The individual dome switches inside the keys were also revised. The focus of the improvement was obviously on the surface finish. iFixit suspects a revised heat treatment or alloy - possibly both. Apart from the butterfly keyboard, there are no other changes to the interior of the new professional laptop.
Whether an improvement has been achieved through the use of new materials will become apparent in the coming weeks and months. In the course of introducing new MacBook Pro models, Apple has exchange program for defective butterfly keyboards expanded to include the 2018 and even 2019 models – read more here.
