The new 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max Apple Silicon chip will, according to Apple, feature a new High Power Mode for intense, sustained workloads.
A few weeks ago, a High Power Mode was revealed in a macOS Monterey beta by MacRumors discovered. This new feature is practically the opposite of the "Power Saving Mode", which aims to reduce system performance to extend battery life. The new mode will only be available on the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. This means that 14-inch model or devices with the M1 Pro are not included.
macOS Monterey: New mode is not intended for typical workflows
So writes Apple in the update description for the latest macOS Monterey beta:
Your Mac will optimize performance to better support resource-intensive tasks. This may result in louder fan noise.
The new mode is not used in typical workflows but when users perform larger or graphics-intensive tasks that require an extra performance boost. The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros both feature an improved thermal architecture. But Apple says the new and improved fans probably won't be used by most users in everyday use. (Image: Apple)
