Somewhat surprisingly, Apple has released the so-called “Device Support Update” on Mac devices running macOS Big Sur.
A new "Device Support Update" for Mac is available via Software Update, which Apple says enables iPhone and iPad to be restored and updated. The update appears to be an additional fix for issues with devices updated via Macs. The update description states:
“Device Support Update”: Restoring iOS & iPadOS devices
This update ensures proper updating and restoring of iOS and iPadOS devices using a Mac.
Normally these features are part of a regular software update and are not released separately published. Apple points out that the update requires 195.6 MB of storage space.

While the general description of the additions is clear, there is currently no precise information on which issues are being fixed or whether it is a specific fix for new devices such as the iPhone 13 and iPad mini 6, as macOS Monterey has not yet been released. If further details emerge, I will of course add to the article. (Image: Apfelpatient)
