In a week, Apple will present not only new hardware products but also the corresponding software. Anyone who thought they knew everything that was coming up is mistaken - at least that's what a new report claims.
The US blog 9to5mac claims to have heard about a new feature that Apple wants to present next week as part of the keynote. It is about a new sleep analysis that is to be introduced under watchOS 6 for the Apple Watch. The information comes directly from Cupertino - according to 9to5mac. The fact that Apple is working on a sleep tracking feature for the Apple Watch has been clear since the takeover of Beddit - a manufacturer of sleep monitoring systems. While some observers expected the introduction of such a function for the popular smartwatch only next year, Apple will probably delight us with it this autumn. According to insiders, Apple's sleep monitoring will not require any additional accessories - the sensors of the Apple Watch would be completely sufficient. The new function is known internally under the code name "Burrito" and is referred to as "Time in Bed Tracking". It allows the user to wear their Apple Watch in bed and measure their sleep. If you have several Apple Watch models, you have to assign the sleep analysis to a fixed device. While the wearer is sleeping, the Apple Watch records the quality of sleep using the built-in sensors - the user's movements, ambient noise and heart rate are also recorded by the system. The stored data is then made available in the Health app on the iPhone and in a new application called "Sleep" for Apple Watch.
Backward compatibility still unclear
Since many users charge their Apple Watch at night, Apple has developed a solution to the problem. The watch is designed to remind the wearer to charge their Apple Watch before going to bed so that they can survive the night. If the user wakes up before the alarm is triggered, it is automatically deactivated. The alarm is usually only played on the Apple Watch itself - but if the wearer does not respond, the iPhone is available as a backup. Users will also have the option to select a silent alarm. In this case, the Apple Watch would only vibrate.
The Do Not Disturb feature is also automatically activated when using sleep monitoring. There will also be a new complication to match. It remains unclear whether the new feature will be available for all users under watchOS 6. Apple Watch models available or will only be reserved for the new generation. However, given the fact that users of several Watch models have to select a fixed device for the feature, it can be assumed that the function will only be linked to the new operating system watchOS 6 and therefore does not require any new hardware.
