According to a new job posting by MyHealthyApple discovered Apple could design and develop its own “health hardware products.”
Apple is looking for a Senior Engineering Project Manager for Apple's Health Hardware Group, which is part of Apple's Health Technologies Division. The job posting explicitly states that Apple is developing its own health hardware products that are not directly related to the Apple Watch. Unlike the sleep tracker Beddit, which was acquired by Apple in 2017, these "health hardware products" would appear directly under the Apple brand.
The Health Hardware group is seeking an Engineering Project Manager (EPM) to lead the design and development of health hardware products under the Apple brand.
Apple Health Hardware EPM Manager oversees product build and more
Health Technologies is an interdisciplinary team of engineers and developers at Apple who are involved in a variety of initiatives, products and services, such as Apple Fitness+ and partnerships with Biogen and ZimmerBiomet. The role is among several other EPM postings found on the Jobs at Apple website. The Health Hardware EPM Manager is expected to oversee the product build itself and also be responsible for working with suppliers and even marketing.
EPMs are fearless organizers who are willing to work with the highly skilled hardware, software, mechanical design, and industrial design teams to identify and address potential risks to the product's schedule and quality. The EPM interacts with these engineering design disciplines as well as with safety, reliability, marketing, packaging, manufacturing, component engineering, and other resources inside and outside Apple.
The EPM is also the main interface with suppliers, he ensures production readiness in the factory and manages production itself. Success is defined by the quality and punctuality of pre-series production and the start of mass production.
Apple has a keen interest in the healthcare sector
The listing's emphasis on developing hardware products and "driving factory production readiness" could suggest that Apple-branded hardware products for the health space are already quite advanced and could even enter factory production soon. Apple is increasingly interested in health and fitness innovations. Most Apple health features have so far been channeled through the Apple Watch and iPhone, but with HealthKit and the established health infrastructure, it would make sense for Apple to offer a wider range of health hardware products. However, the job posting does not specify which products these might be. So it remains exciting as always. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
