The jailbreak tool "Checkra1n" has received a new update. Now iOS devices can be cracked via Android.
In September last year, a exploit which makes it possible to crack all iPhone devices between 2011 and 2017 - iPhone 4S to iPhone X. The hardware-based security vulnerability is also known as the "Epic Jailbreak". The first jailbreak tool called "Checkra1n" was introduced at the beginning of November. The software has now received an update that makes it possible to crack iPhones via Android. As Cult of Mac writes in a new report:
Checkra1n, the latest jailbreaking tool for the iPhone, has some major advantages over its predecessors. It is the first to successfully jailbreak iOS 13. It works across system updates. And it's the first to allow you to jailbreak your iPhone with an Android device.
Checkra1n is still in the beta phase, but is a functioning tool. It supports a whole range of iPhone and iPad models and can crack iOS 12.3 and above. It is based on the Checkm8 bootrom exploit used in previous crack tools and it brings some nice improvements.
The disadvantage of Checkra1n is that it is a tethered jailbreak. This means that every time you reboot your iOS device, you have to run Checkra1n to jailbreak it again. However, now that the tool works on Android, it's easier than ever to do this on the go."
Jailbreak to go
The exploit presented in the fall called "checkm8" is basically unpatchable for Apple, as it is based on a hardware vulnerability. This means that every Apple A-series CPU up to the A11 Bionic chip is affected by the vulnerability. This means that Apple cannot prevent the jailbreak by means of an iOS update. This is why "checkm8" is also considered a permanent bootrom exploit and has the title "Epic Jailbreak". To perform the jailbreak, a compatible iPhone or iPad must be set to DFU mode and connected to a Mac or, from now on, an Android device with Checkra1n. The jailbreak tool will take care of the rest from then on. Since cracking is now also possible on the go, the whole thing becomes much more interesting for the jailbreak community. Checkra1n is now available for macOS, Linux and Android - a Windows version is already in development.
Jailbreak warning
But please note one thing - performing a jailbreak should not be taken lightly. This process completely removes all software-based restrictions. For example, users are able to install applications outside of the App Store on the respective device. In addition, practically the entire system can be modified - removing all blockades also voids the warranty and makes the device vulnerable. Consequently, amateurs should avoid jailbreaking, as the damage will be greater than the benefit in this case. For the professionals among you - here is the link to the official site.
