The first iPod touch was released on September 5, 2007. So far, six different generations have been introduced - they differ primarily in their features.
A rumor recently surfaced that Apple plans to release the seventh generation of the iPod touch this year. The iPhone-like device was last updated in 2015. Now a change has been noted by the US Patent and Trademark Registration Office. According to the report, Apple has expanded the trademark of the iPod touch. It can now also be marketed as a handheld game console.
Little known about iPod touch 7
Because hardly any significant information is known about the upcoming iPod touch model, this expansion is difficult to assess. Either Apple is really planning to enter the gaming world and will offer the iPod touch 7 as a kind of new Gameboy, or Cupertino simply wants to have the trademark protected in the said category. It is possible that further details about the upcoming iPod touch will leak out in the near future - or Apple itself will surprise us.
