Many iPhone users have been waiting for this feature for a long time. The dual SIM function is being introduced for the first time on iPhones. A physical SIM card can be inserted into the device and anyone who has another number can link it to the e-SIM built into the iPhone.
However, this function must be supported by the mobile phone provider. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone offer this service.
software update as a prerequisite
Now something is happening with our neighbors too. As the Austrian newspaper “Standard” reports, T-Mobile Austria will also support the e-SIM of the new iPhones. Support will start at the end of the year - the prerequisite for this is a corresponding software update from Apple - this of course also applies to Germany.
As soon as this is the case, users could theoretically do without the physical SIM card and keep the contract running via the e-SIM. The SIM slot would then be free for a second card, whether in Germany or abroad. It is assumed that Apple will only completely do away with the physical SIM slot once e-SIM is widely supported by mobile phone providers.
