Sales of the iPhone Xr began on October 26 in over 50 countries. Although there were rumors of initial production problems, Apple was able to produce enough units for the market launch.
According to a recent media report, demand for the iPhone Xr is not as expected. Nikkei Asian Review reports that Apple has informed suppliers Foxconn and Pegatron about the current situation and instructed them not to create any additional production capacity. Foxconn is said to have 60 production lines, of which only 45 are in use. A total of 100,000 fewer units are being produced per day than originally planned. According to the Japanese business news agency, Apple has also scheduled the manufacturer Wistron for the Christmas business.
iPhone Xr more popular than iPhone 8
The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also commented again on the sales performance of the iPhone Xr. According to him, the colorful iPhone had a better sales start than its predecessor from 2017. Compared to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the new LCD model is said to have had a better pre-order rate. The value is, of course, as expected, below the iPhone Xs series, but above the iPhone 8 generation. Kuo also recalls statements from last year. According to these, the iPhone X was also affected by such production cuts. In the end, however, the iPhone X turned out to be a box office hit.
