The iPhone Xr has a 6.1" screen - this is not OLED but LCD. It also has Face ID. This means that Touch ID on iPhones is finally a thing of the past.
Apple introduced three new iPhones on September 12th. Two of them are already available to buy. The iPhone Xr is scheduled to launch on October 26th. When Apple introduced the devices, the iPhone Xr did not yet have approval from the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).
What is the FCC?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent authority in the United States. The FCC is responsible for various radio services and is the approval authority for communications equipment. It tests the devices for compatibility with its own and other standards (e.g. from ISA, ISO or ITU).
This was recorded by Apple with the following text on its own website:
iPhone XR has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. iPhone XR is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained
Now Apple has removed the notice from the homepage. This means that the iPhone Xr has received official approval and nothing stands in the way of a sale. The new iPhone Xr can officially be pre-ordered from October 19th. Delivery will begin on October 26th. The colorful iPhone starts at 849 euros.
