Well-known star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has responded in a note to investors, publishing his new forecast for iPhone sales in 2020.
TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will sell around 10 percent more iPhones in the first quarter of 2020, as demand for the iPhone SE successor will be much higher than many believe. According to Kuo, many fans are waiting for an iPhone 11 alternative, but the iPhone SE 2 is supposed to be the perfect replacement. This is what he says in his report:
"We expect combined iPhone shipments in 1Q20 to grow by around 101% year-on-year, as iPhone 11 replacement demand is boosted by cheaper pricing and iPhone SE2 shipments starting in 1Q20. We estimate iPhone shipments in 1Q20 of 45-50 million units (iPhone 11 Pro series and iPhone 11 at 13-15 million units and 22-24 million units, respectively), better than around 42 million units of iPhone shipments in 1Q19 (iPhone XS series and iPhone XR at around 12 million units and 14 million units, respectively)."
The analyst also believes that Apple will sell around 70-75 million iPhones of the latest generation by the end of 2019 – the number could have been even higher if there hadn't been supply bottlenecks, according to Kuo. According to his information, Apple has already increased production – report from October 4th.
iPhone SE 2 in the iPhone 8 case
The rumors about an iPhone SE successor have been around for some time – but only recently did Kuo give more precise details to the new entry-level iPhone. The device is supposed to look similar to the iPhone 8 but with significantly more performance.
According to Kuo's sources, the iPhone SE 2 will be delivered with the A13 chip and have 3 GB of RAM. It will also continue to be equipped with Touch ID, as Face ID is significantly more expensive to produce. The presentation of the new mini iPhone will probably take place at Apple's well-known spring event - in March. (Photo by Yastremska / Bigstockphoto)
