Apple announced tonight that shipments of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be lower than the company previously estimated due to temporary COVID-19 restrictions at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China, where the devices are manufactured.
The warning was given in a short press release published. It states:
COVID-19 restrictions are temporarily impacting the primary iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max assembly facility in Zhengzhou, China. The facility is currently operating at significantly reduced capacity. As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of workers in our supply chain is our top priority. We continue to see strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. However, we now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than previously estimated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products. We are working closely with our supplier to return production to normal levels while ensuring the health and safety of all workers.
iPhone 14 Pro production was reduced by about 30 percent
A report last week claimed that iPhone production at the Foxconn factory could be reduced by up to 30% from usual levels due to the restrictions. Apple said the reduced supply chain capacity will mean customers will have longer wait times for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max orders. On November 2, the Chinese government ordered a one-week lockdown of an industrial zone where the Foxconn factory is located following a COVID-19 outbreak. In this country, the wait time is around 3-4 weeks when ordering through the Apple Online Store. So if you have an iPhone 14 Pro in mind as a Christmas present, you should place your order promptly.
