While Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series last night, the so-called ProRAW image format was also announced exclusively for the iPhone 12 Pro models.
Apple's ProRAW, which will be available on the iPhone 12 Pro later in 2020, is a new image format that combines Apple's computational photography features with the benefits of RAW shooting. When shooting in RAW format, users typically lose the benefits of Apple's computational photography features like Deep Fusion and Smart HDR. With the iPhone 12 Pro, users can shoot in the new Apple ProRAW format, which combines the two. Apple has created an entirely new way of capturing images that combines multiple processing steps and merges them into a new image file at the time of capture without any shutter lag.

iPhone 12 Pro: ProRAW image format not available at launch
This includes processing by the CPU, GPU, ISP and Neural Engine. Photographers can retain full control over color, detail and dynamic range while shooting, but get the depth of performance and flexibility of RAW. Users can shoot in Apple ProRAW directly from the built-in camera application. But that's not all. A third-party API allows developers to integrate ProRAW images into their own applications. delivery The new feature will not be activated on either of the iPhone 12 Pro devices. According to the company, this will be added by the end of the year.
