As expected, Apple has presented the iPhone 12 series and ushered in the era of the 5G standard. Now all the important data is also available on Apple's website - the 5G differences are also shown.
Rumors have been circulating for months that the iPhone 12 line will only support mmWave 5G in the US. Now we have certainty. Support for high-frequency mmWave bands is limited to iPhone 12 models sold in the United States. This includes compatibility with Verizon's new 5G ultra-wideband network, which is available in the US starting today. iPhone 12 devices sold outside the United States are limited to sub-6GHz bands for 5G, including Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia, and other countries. mmWave technology is a set of 5G frequencies that promise ultra-fast speeds over short distances, making it best suited to dense urban areas. In comparison, 5G in the sub-6GHz band is generally slower than mmWave, but signals travel farther, better serving suburban and rural areas.

In most countries that offer 5G, sub-6GHz networks are more common – including here in Germany. According to Apple, the iPhone 12 models support more 5G bands than any other smartphone. The devices can also switch to LTE completely automatically to save battery life. All important details You can find out more about the new iPhone generation below.
