The iPhone 12 mini and Pro Max have been available in stores since Friday. The first teardown videos have already been published. Now iFixit has published an analysis provided.
The iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch display and offers all the advantages that the iPhone 12 has to offer. However, the mini version is much more manageable. But is the device also easy to repair? The first thing that stands out in this teardown is the small battery with 8.57 Wh. It becomes clear that the battery is actually larger than that of the slightly larger iPhone SE 2020 with 6.96 Wh.

To Memory, the iPhone 12 has a 10.78 Wh battery. Be that as it may. The teardown shows that Apple has integrated some components that can also be found in the other models in the series - just smaller. For example, the Taptic Engine, the speaker and the MagSafe ring have been made smaller.

In the camera area, however, no changes were made, as iFixit notes. This means that the mini version uses the same ƒ/1.6 wide-angle and ƒ/2.4 ultra-wide-angle cameras as the standard model. The wide-angle module also has optical image stabilization. Compared to the regular iPhone 12, the mini has only two instead of three display cables. During the teardown, iFixit also discovered an "increased grid asymmetry". Since the 5G antenna band requires more space, this is probably the result - according to the technicians. Overall, iFixit gives the small device six out of a possible ten points in terms of ease of repair. The repair professionals justify their decision by saying that many components are modular and therefore easy to replace. At the same time, iFixit criticizes the repeated use of Apple screws, which lead to increased water resistance, as they make repairs more difficult.
