Two of the four new iPhone 12 models have been available since Friday. The first teardown videos have already been released. But now the guys from iFixit have taken a look and provided further details.
After the first videos were published showing the new Apple smartphone inside, the repair specialists at iFixit have now released a detailed teardown of the two devices provided. Initial tests conducted by iFixit show that the displays of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are interchangeable and the change can be made without any problems. It should be noted that the maximum brightness level of the two models varies slightly. Since only the displays and no other components have been removed, the devices look almost identical.

An interesting difference was found under the camera cover. Apple seems to have integrated some kind of plastic spacer in place of the telephoto lens and LiDAR scanner on the cheaper device.

iPhone 12 teardown: X-ray reveals more details
Earlier this week, it was announced that both the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro have the same 2,815 mAh battery. iFixit was able to confirm this information during the teardown.

Replacing both components should be easy. An X-ray image taken by Creative Electron created and released, reveals the almost identical L-shaped logic board, the battery and the circular arrangement of magnets that hold the MagSafe support in the two devices.

Overall, iFixit gives both devices six out of a possible ten points in terms of repairability. The repair professionals justify their decision by saying that many components are modular and therefore easy to replace. At the same time, iFixit criticizes the repeated use of Apple screws, which lead to increased water resistance, as they make repairs more difficult. (Image: Apple)
