This topic should not be new to most people. In mid-2018, there were already initial rumors that 3D Touch would be discontinued in 2019. Now the time has actually come.
The history: 3D Touch is a function that Apple introduced with the iPhone 6S. The user can perform three different functions by pressing the touch-sensitive display with varying degrees of force. The pressure sensitivity can be individually adjusted on compatible devices. But now that is definitely over. The reason is said to be a lack of popularity and the manufacturing process. Although 3D Touch was an improvement and is still popular with some users, the function was not a great success. The sensors required for it also made the manufacture of the displays much more difficult, which is why production was also more expensive. Over the last few months, rumors of the discontinuation have increased - some fans laughed at them, but now it is no longer a rumor but reality.
iPhone 11 Pro with Haptic Touch
The replacement for 3D Touch is called Haptic Touch and was first introduced in this form with the iPhone XR last year. In this version, the user receives haptic (vibrating) feedback by a long click. The function was originally known under the name Force Touch from the Apple Watch. Apple had to optimize this feature in the iPhone X due to the missing home button. Incidentally, haptic feedback is also used in Macs and is also known there under the name Force Touch. "With Haptic Touch you can do things faster, like taking selfies, without having to launch the camera app“ – this is how Apple advertises the new feature.
It basically gives the user, based on software, the feeling of using 3D Touch – with the help of iOS 13, it should be even better and in no way inferior to 3D Touch. In addition to app quick actions, it will still be possible to call up contextual "peek and pop" views. Whether fans will really be happy with this remains to be seen.
