Sony is launching a brand new PlayStation app for iOS and Android today that aims to “strengthen your connections with friends and the games you love to play, even when you’re away from your console.”
The update, announced by Sony on the PlayStation blog, includes a completely new design, voice chat, PS Store integration and exclusive PS5 features. The company explained:

Later today, the PS App will roll out globally through updates on iOS (12.2 or later) and Android (6.0 or later) mobile devices. The PS App introduces new features such as voice chat, native PS Store integration, and a smoother experience in an all-new design.
There are a number of notable new features. In addition, support for the PlayStation 5 is also being introduced. Specifically related to the PS5, users will be able to remotely launch games from the application, manage storage space, and much more. Below we have Sony's update description listed verbatim.
PlayStation App Update:
- Updated user interface - The first thing you'll notice is the sleek new interface of the redesigned PS App. The new home screen lets you quickly see what your friends are playing and access details about your recently played games, including your trophy list.
- integration of messages - For a unified experience, the PS Messages feature will now be integrated into the updated PS app, allowing you to seamlessly message your friends in one place. As part of this integration, PS Messages will no longer be available as a standalone app. Your existing messages and threads in PS Messages will be transferred to the updated PS app.
- voice chat and party groups - You can now create Party groups from within the PS App and voice chat with up to 15 other friends from your mobile phone. Also, a note to fans: The PlayStation team is reviewing your feedback on the party changes introduced in PS4 system software update 8.00. There are no updates to distribute today, but thank you for raising your concerns - we are listening and evaluating.
- Natively integrated PlayStation Store and remote downloads – The new native PS Store experience enables fast and seamless shopping and browsing with the ability to remotely download games and add-ons directly to your PS4 and PS5 systems.
- New features for PS5 - When the PS5 system is available, you can launch games remotely, manage storage on your console if you run out of space when downloading a game, and quickly sign in to the PS5 system directly from the PS5 app.
