Apple has released the third beta of iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5, macOS 15.5, watchOS 11.5, tvOS 18.5, and visionOS 2.5 to registered developers. This marks the next step in the beta phase—the final release is expected to be just a few weeks away. The new test version is available for download now through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta is expected to follow shortly, as usual.
With each beta release, Apple refines its operating systems – and iOS 18.5 is no exception. Even though no spectacular new features have been added so far, it's clear that Apple is working on details that are intended to improve users' everyday lives. The third beta appears to be continuing this path. As of now, no new visible changes have been documented. The focus therefore remains on stability, bug fixes, and preparation for the upcoming release.
iOS 18.5: What's happened so far
Even with the first beta of iOS 18.5, there were small but noticeable changes – especially in the Mail app and the system settings:
- Mail app now more customizable: Users can now disable contact photos and grouping by sender directly in the app via the three-dot menu. Previously, this was only possible via the iOS settings.
- AppleCare section redesigned: A new banner now appears under Settings > General > AppleCare & Warranty. AppleCare information can also be viewed and managed more quickly in the Apple ID section.
These changes have already generated positive feedback – especially from users who had difficulty with the new Mail design starting with iOS 18.2. In Beta 2, however, there were no visible changes. And Beta 3 also seems to be working more in the background.
Beta 3 brings no visible innovations – so far
At this time, no new features or UI changes have been discovered in iOS 18.5 Beta 3. It's safe to assume that Apple is continuing to work on system stability and performance. This typically includes optimizations, bug fixes, and the preparation of features that will be rolled out in upcoming versions or later releases. As always, if anything emerges in the code or through developer reports, we'll provide further information.
Final release is getting closer
Based on the current schedule, iOS 18.5 should be released in May—along with updates to other operating systems. In recent years, Apple has typically released iOS 18.5 versions in the second week of May. There are many indications that this will continue this year. Until then, at most, one or two betas could be released before the release candidate follows.
iOS 18.5 in the final spurt – Beta 3 focuses on stability
With the third beta of iOS 18.5, Apple is getting closer to the next public update. Even though Beta 3 doesn't bring any visible new features, one thing is clear: work is underway behind the scenes. Those who have already installed an earlier beta can download the update as usual via Settings. New users should, as always, use a second device, as this is a pre-release version. As always, we'll keep you updated as soon as new features appear. (Photo by Unsplash / Thai Nguyen)
