Apple has started the beta phase for the next round of its operating systems. The first developer beta of iOS 18.4 and other updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro are now available. With the beta, Apple wants to initiate the next steps in the further development of its software, even if no official details about the new functions are yet known.
Beta versions are an exciting opportunity for developers to test new features early and provide feedback. For you, this means exciting insights into what the upcoming updates might bring.
The new beta phase: What is known so far
Apple has released the first developer beta for the following systems:
- iOS 18.4 (iPhone)
- iPadOS 18.4 (iPad)
- macOS 15.4 (Mac)
- watchOS 11.4 (Apple Watch)
- tvOS 18.4 (Apple TV)
- visionOS 2.4 (Vision Pro)
The beta is currently only available to registered developers. However, a public beta available to all interested users should follow soon.
What's in iOS 18.4?
The first beta versions are usually used to fix bugs, improve performance and carry out initial tests of new functions. Changes to Siri, new options for standard apps in the EU, additional emoji or improvements in the Home app - as well as Apple Intelligence in other languages, including German - can be expected, as Apple has already emphasized several times. We will report on this in detail shortly as soon as we have verified the new features.
Why is the beta phase important?
With each new beta, Apple relies on feedback from developers to optimize the software before it is available to all users. This allows bugs to be fixed and functions to be improved before they are made into the final version. This is a crucial step, especially for iOS betas, as this is often where new features are tested for the first time.
Other operating systems in beta testing
In addition to iOS 18.4, Apple has also released beta versions for its other platforms. Particularly interesting here is visionOS 2.4, which was developed specifically for the Vision Pro. macOS 15.4, tvOS 18.4 and watchOS 11.4 could also bring interesting new features.
What does this mean for you?
If you are a developer, you can already test the beta versions and actively participate in further development. Normal users will have to wait a little longer until the public beta is released.
