Apple has released the third beta of iOS 18.3 for developers, bringing interesting new features and optimizations to the devices. While the first two betas only contained small changes, Beta 3 offers some important improvements. Below you will find a detailed overview of all the new features and adjustments in the latest test version.
Betas of iOS versions give you the opportunity to take an early look at new features that Apple is integrating into the operating system. With iOS 18.3 Beta 3, Apple is once again showing that it is focusing on user feedback and continuous optimization. Particularly noteworthy are changes to the notification summaries, the revised camera controls and new functions in the Messages app. There are also smaller adjustments that should ensure a smoother use. Here is everything you need to know.
Optimized notification summaries
A key focus of this beta is notification summaries. Apple has responded to complaints that these summaries are sometimes inaccurate or misleading. The display has been improved so that news and headlines are presented more clearly and understandably. These changes apply not only to iOS 18.3 but also to iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3. This ensures that you can immediately recognize important information without becoming confused.
New camera controls for iPhone 16
For users of iPhone 16 models, there is a small but useful change in the camera settings. The toggle switch for AE/AF lock has been renamed "Maintain focus and exposure". This makes the function understandable even for users who are less familiar with photography terms. The function remains unchanged: you can lock focus and exposure by holding down the camera control button. This option is based on the functionality of professional cameras and makes taking photos even easier.
New features in the messaging app
There is now an additional way to create your Genmojis in the Messages app. When you press the "+" button in a conversation, you will find a new Genmoji entry in the sidebar. From there, you will be taken directly to the creation interface. This makes using this feature faster and more intuitive than before. Genmojis are now even easier to access and can be customized in a snap. (Not available in EU countries until April 2025!)
Transparency in PDF editing
Editing PDF files in the screenshot interface has also been improved. When you cut content from a PDF, iOS now warns you that the cut content will be invisible in most PDF viewers but may be recoverable in some apps. This warning provides more transparency and protects you from potential mistakes when editing sensitive information in a document.
Further adjustments and improvements
In addition to the larger changes, each beta version also contains smaller adjustments that are not always immediately noticeable. It can be worthwhile to explore the new version in detail to discover all the hidden features.
Apple continues to optimize iOS 18.3 based on user feedback
With iOS 18.3 Beta 3, Apple is focusing on targeted improvements that are intended to make using the operating system even more intuitive and practical. The revised notification summaries, the new camera controls and the practical additions to the Messages app show that Apple is responding to user feedback. At the same time, details such as the warning when editing PDFs provide more transparency. This beta version shows where things are headed and gives hope for an exciting final update.
