With iOS 18.1 and the associated updates for macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS, Apple continues its development of operating systems. These versions promise not only improved performance but also significant advances in the field of artificial intelligence.
Just one day after the release of the final versions of iOS 18.0 and macOS 15.0, Apple has already released the fourth beta of iOS 18.1 as well as other systems such as macOS 15.1 and iPadOS 18.1 for developers released. Also included is the first preview version of watchOS 11.1, tvOS 18.1 and visionOS 2.1. This update contains more than just small bug fixes - Apple is bringing its new AI platform "Apple Intelligence" into play. This feature will be the focus of future versions and is intended to revolutionize the way users interact with their Apple devices.
What's new in iOS 18.1?
The iOS 18.1 beta offers a variety of new features, most of which are based on the integration of Apple Intelligence. This platform is designed to help you make your iPhone even more efficient by further expanding AI capabilities. Highlights of the update include:
- Text improvement tools: Do you often write messages or notes? With the new Writing Tools you can have texts improved. The AI recognizes grammatical and stylistic errors and suggests better wording.
- Automatic message summaries: You will now find an option that automatically summarizes messages and notifications. This helps you get to the point faster and filter out unnecessary information.
- “Clean Up” in the Photos app: This feature allows you to remove unwanted objects or people from your photos. One click is enough to make disturbing elements disappear and get the perfect picture.
However, these and many other features are not available to all users. For some features, such as the new voice commands of the next generation of Siri or image editing options, such as the “Image Playground” tool, you may have to wait until 2025 or even longer before they are fully integrated.
Why the focus on Apple Intelligence?
Apple Intelligence, Apple's new AI system, is at the heart of the new versions. It is designed to make the interaction between you and your device even more intuitive. From improved voice commands to creative tools such as image generation via "Image Playground" and the creation of personalized emojis, the so-called "Genmojis". Apple plans to gradually expand these functions by 2025 and make them available to the general public. As far as citizens in EU countries are concerned, it remains to be seen when we will actually be able to enjoy the new functions. more about it here!
