With iOS 18.1 Beta 5, Apple has introduced an interesting innovation for camera controls. Users of the iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, can now more easily access the selfie camera without touching the screen. The new feature allows you to switch to the front camera directly from the camera controls.
In the new beta version of iOS 18.1, Apple has optimized the camera controls. Previously, you could switch back and forth between the different zoom levels (such as 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 5x on the Pro models) using the swipe gesture on the camera controls. With iOS 18.1, it is now also possible to integrate the selfie camera into this process. Once you have opened the camera app and pressed the camera control button, you can switch between the different lenses by swiping on the button. The person symbol that appears at the top represents the front camera. When you select this symbol, the camera automatically switches to selfie mode.
Using the new function
You no longer need to tap the screen to activate the selfie camera. This makes it easier to use the camera, especially in situations where you want to take a quick selfie or your display is difficult to reach. You keep your fingers on the camera controls and can control all lenses without using the screen. It is also practical that the camera app saves the last setting used. If you last used the selfie camera, the camera app will open directly with this setting the next time.
Further improvements in iOS 18.1
In addition to the new selfie option, iOS 18.1 includes some general improvements to the camera app. It is smoother to use and responds more quickly to your inputs. This makes taking photos and videos even more enjoyable, especially on the new iPhone 16 models.
iOS 18.1 brings optimized selfie control to the iPhone 16
The new selfie option in iOS 18.1 is a useful addition for anyone who frequently uses the front camera on their iPhone. The integration into the camera controls makes it much easier and more intuitive to use. If you own one of the iPhone 16 models, it's worth trying out the new feature and exploiting the camera's full potential. Are you looking for new accessories?
