Apple recently unveiled some exciting improvements for the Wallet app and Apple Pay in iOS 17 in an exciting video. The software update is currently in beta and will be released later this year for iPhone XS and later. While a major redesign of the Wallet app was expected, the changes in iOS 17 are fairly minor. Still, there are some standout features that will significantly improve the Wallet and Apple Pay user experience.
One of the most notable improvements is related to Apple Pay order tracking. Thanks to the integration of Apple Maps, the Maps app will now proactively appear via Siri suggestions when users track their orders with specific pickup times and locations. This allows for easy and convenient navigation to the desired locations. In addition, there are other notable features that optimize the customer experience. Merchants now have the option to attach receipts as PDF or image files to Apple Pay orders to provide customers with proof of payment in the Wallet app. In addition, merchants can now also attach orders directly to emails, such as order confirmations. Customers can simply tap the email attachment in their Mail app and add the order directly to the Wallet app.
Introduction of the "Track with Apple Wallet" button and digital ID documents
In addition to the improvements already mentioned, Apple has also introduced a new button called “Track with Apple Wallet.” This button can be integrated by merchants into their iPhone apps and websites. This will make it easier for customers to add their orders directly to the Wallet app and conveniently track the progress of their deliveries or transactions. One particularly exciting announcement concerns the use of the Wallet app for driver’s licenses and national ID cards. Starting later this year, iPhone users will be able to present these ID documents at participating stores and venues – in the U.S. only. By simply tapping the iPhone or Apple Watch near a terminal, users can quickly and easily verify their age and identity, for example when purchasing alcohol or renting a vehicle. Apple has dubbed this feature “Tap to Present ID on iPhone” and provides more details in the aforementioned video.
Conclusion: iOS 17 brings improved features for Wallet and Apple Pay
With the latest improvements to Wallet and Apple Pay in iOS 17, Apple is offering its users an even better user experience. Tracking orders is optimized with the integration of Apple Maps and Siri suggestions. The ability to view receipts directly in the Wallet app and add orders from email attachments makes it easier to organize and verify transactions. The "Track with Apple Wallet" button and the introduction of digital ID documents open up exciting new ways to use the Wallet app. Looking for new accessories?
