According to Apple, AirPods users will get some new features on iOS 15, including Conversation Boost for AirPods Pro and real Find My support for the first time.
While Apple mentioned that users will be able to locate lost AirPods with Precise Find, iOS 15 will also link AirPods to your Apple ID to ensure users can easily find them anywhere. Similar to AirTags, iOS 15 will use Bluetooth technology to precisely locate AirPods when you're nearby but don't know exactly where the buds are. This feature will be available for both AirPods Pro and AirPods Max and will show the current location of AirPods on the map even when they're not connected to your iPhone or iPad.
Connecting AirPods to Apple ID: Activation Lock missing
To achieve this, the AirPods are finally bound to your own Apple ID, the reported now 9to5mac. Based on current iOS 15 code, lost AirPods will continue to send their location to the owner via the "Find My" network, even if someone else connects them to another device. However, anyone who thinks that connecting the Apple ID means an activation lock has been integrated is mistaken. The system will work in a similar way to AirTags for the AirPods. This means that although they are linked to the Apple ID, anyone can manually reset them and thus unpair them. However, the feature is not yet officially available. Apple will probably unlock the whole thing with a firmware update for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. (Photo by Unsplash / David Levêque)
