Apple has added the feature “Optimized battery charging“ to save iPhone batteries during charging. Now the AirPods are set to get the same feature.
While iOS 13 was supposed to take care of the iPhone battery, iOS 14 will also take care of the AirPods battery in addition to the iPhone. Apple wants the new iPhone operating system to take into account the user's personal habits regarding plug analyzed and remembered. Basically, the same principle is applied as with the iPhone. Apple explains the new function in a push notification under iOS 14 as follows:
Optimized battery charging enabled: To reduce battery aging, AirPods learn from your daily charging routine so they can wait beyond 80 minutes to complete charging until you need to use them.
MacBooks also have battery management
This means that iOS 14 now also controls the charging of the AirPods. In the past, many AirPods users have complained about battery problems. For example, the battery of the AirPods 1 and 2 is said to have deteriorated significantly after around a year. It can be assumed that the new feature will have a positive effect on the life cycle of the battery. On the Mac, Apple added a new battery health management feature with the release of macOS Catalina 10.15.5. This feature aims to improve the long-term health of a MacBook's battery, especially for those who use their MacBook plugged into a power outlet most of the time. In this situation, the battery health management feature is activated to prevent the MacBook from charging too much - you can find out more about this below.
