Apple has now released an update for iPhone and iPad. Both iOS 14.8.1 and iPadOS 14.8.1 are aimed at users who have not yet switched to iOS 15.
After Apple released iOS 15.1 and Co. on Monday evening, iOS 14.8.1 and iPadOS 14.8.1 have now been released providedThe updates are aimed at users who are currently running iOS 14. The update can be carried out as usual in the settings, under "General" in the "Software update" section.
iOS 14.8.1 is highly recommended
iOS 14.8.1 is not a feature release but is primarily maintenance and fixes a number of security issues. According to Apple, many of the changes close holes in the operating system that either allow a malicious application to elevate its privileges or allow code to be executed with kernel privileges. One of the vulnerabilities fixed is a fix for IOMobileFrameBuffer that fixes a corrupted memory issue through improved memory handling. The issue, CVE-2021-30883, allowed applications to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple adds that it is "aware of a report" that it was "actively exploited." Accordingly, the updates are strongly recommended and should be installed promptly. (Photo by Blan-k / Bigstockphoto)
