Apple released iOS 14.6 and Co. for registered developers yesterday evening. The new iPhone update is intended to make it easier for users to switch between release candidates and beta versions.
In iOS 14.6 Beta 1 update description, shared on the Apple Developer website, the company mentions that users running beta versions of the operating system can now update their iPhone or iPad to an RC build without removing the beta profile. With the RC build installed, the user can choose to stay in the beta program to receive new updates or leave the program and only receive official updates.
iOS 14.6: Change to the iOS update system was discovered in advance
Software Update - New features in iOS & iPadOS 14.6 Beta. You can now update your iOS or iPadOS device directly to the latest release candidate without removing the beta profile. After updating to the release candidate, you can choose to update to the next available beta or uninstall the profile to remove your device from the beta program.
In fact, this feature already seems to work with iOS 14.5 RC, which was released to developers earlier this week released If users have the latest version of iOS 14.5 installed on their device and the beta profile is activated, the iOS 14.6 update will appear as an alternative update in the Settings app. Interestingly, the feature was already discovered in an earlier beta of iOS 14.5. At the time, however, it was not entirely clear what the change to the iOS update system meant. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
