Apple released updates for all five operating systems last night. Older devices with iOS 12 and watchOS 5 were also included.
As has now become known, updating to the new iOS and other versions is strongly recommended. The reason for this is a vulnerability in Facetime. Users of older devices were also taken into account. The security gap in Facetime allows malicious code to be injected onto the devices via video calls. Yesterday's updates are intended to fix this bug. The discovery was made by security researcher Natalie Silvanovich - Project Zero.
Older devices also affected
Google's elite bug search team recently discovered the vulnerability and reported it directly to Apple. Exact details of the security vulnerability have not yet been published. The process is therefore still unknown. Silvanovich has already uncovered several exploits in Apple's communication services. According to the protocol, the vulnerability was completely closed using iOS 13.3, iPadOS 13.3 and macOS 10.15.2 Catalina. Older iPhone and iPad devices can download iOS 12.4.4. There is also a security update for Mac devices under macOS 10.13 High Sierra and 10.14 Mojave. As already mentioned above, the updates are strongly recommended by Apple. By the way, users of older Apple Watch models have also been taken into account. watchOS 5.3.4 is available for these. You can find everything about iOS 13.3 in our Summary remove.
