Rumors about a new iPad mini 5 and a successor to the entry-level iPad are increasing. Another leak in the current iOS 12.2 beta gives hope for accessories.
As expected, further clues about the eagerly awaited iPad mini 5 were found in the current iOS 12.2 beta - the sixth generation iPad did not go unnoticed either. The developer Steve Troughton-Smith has found new details about possible accessories, but stresses that the information should be taken with a grain of salt. Accordingly, the iPad mini 5 could appear with Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support - the code also suggests this for the upcoming entry-level iPad of the next generation.
Four iPad models with Touch ID
The code names of the four iPad models are J210, J211, J217 and J218. These are two WiFi devices and two WiFi + cellular models in two sizes. The iPad mini 5 is expected to have a screen diagonal of 7.9" and the successor to the 9.7" iPad will have a total of 10" display. The new iPads are likely to support the biometric decryption technology Touch ID. Therefore, the form factors are similar to the existing models. Apple's iPad Pro models use Face ID. Since the iPad and the new iPad mini are likely to be positioned as cheaper devices, Apple is expected to stick with Touch ID.
