Apple released iOS 9.3.6 and iOS 10.3.4 for older iPhone and iPad models in July this year. Now reminders are being sent to users of older devices.
Apple has started reminding users of iOS 10.3.4 & iOS 9.3.6 updates. They must have updated by November 3rd to continue to have access to iCloud, the App Store and more. If the updates are not carried out in time before midnight UTC on November 3rd, the affected devices will experience problems using GPS. Access to the App Store and iCloud will also no longer be possible. After this date, the devices can only be updated via a Mac or PC. This is stated in a new support document:
"It begins shortly before 12:00 UTC on November 3, 2019. Some iPhone and iPad models introduced in 2012 and earlier will require an iOS update to obtain accurate GPS location. This is due to the GPS timeout issue that has been affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers since April 6, 2019." The following iPhones and iPads are affected:
- iOS 10.3.4 – iPhone 5, iPad 4. (Wifi + Cellular)
- iOS 9.3.6 – iPhone 4S, iPad 3. (Wifi + Cellular), iPad 2 (Wifi + Cellular), iPad mini (1st generation Wifi + Cellular)
Apple's reminder therefore draws affected users' attention to the update by November 3rd and explains the consequences. According to this, the App Store, iCloud, email, web and other services cannot be used without the update. The update can of course be carried out afterwards. However, this requires a backup via the PC or Mac and a subsequent restoration of the respective device - according to Apple. The problem does not affect iPod touch models or iPad models that only have WiFi. (Photo by tashka2000 / Bigstockphoto)
