Chip manufacturer Intel today officially introduced the 10th generation of its desktop processors called “Comet Lake.” These will also be suitable for future iMac models.
Intel today launched the 10th generation of new desktop processors presented. Of the 32 new chips, a handful will most likely be used in future iMac models. The flagship Core i9-10900K is the top performer in the new series. According to Intel, this is the fastest gaming processor in the world. The i9-10900K has 10 cores and a base frequency of 3.7 GHz, while Intel's Thermal Velocity Boost can increase the single-core speed to 5.3 GHz. This processor is officially the successor to the i9-9900K chip, which is currently found in the more powerful iMac configurations. Accordingly, the i9-10900K presented today could be used in future iMac devices. The current iMac family relies on 8th and 9th generation "Coffee Lake" processors.
New iMac could come with a larger display
The newly introduced "Comet Lake" series will replace it. This means that Apple could use the new Core i3-10100, Core i5-10500 and Core i7-10700 chips for the 21.5-inch iMac series, while the 27-inch version of the iMac could get the Core i5-10500, Core i5-10600 and Core i5-10600K in addition to the high-end i9 option. However, these details are only speculations. Of course, Apple could also forego such a comprehensive update and only update some of the processors, but it is conceivable, especially since rumors currently point to an update of the iMac family. If the rumor mill is right, the update is likely to be more extensive. According to some sources, Apple is planning to release the 21.5-inch device at a 23-inch iMac This redesign would be possible through narrower display edges – similar to the MacBook Pro 16″.
