According to Apple, spatial audio and lossless support in Apple Music will also be integrated into the HomePod and HomePod mini this fall. Now Cupertino has made further adjustments in the fifth HomePod beta.
Apple has added a new switch for Dolby Atmos in the Home app with HomePod 15 Beta 5. Interestingly, the feature is not available to every beta tester, similar as with Lossless Audio. Nevertheless, this change shows that Cupertino is working on completing Spatial Audio and Lossless. Anyone running the HomePod beta can check whether the new functions are available to them personally. In addition to audioOS 15, the current iOS 15 beta is also required.
- Open the Home app.
- Click the Home icon in the upper left corner.
- Select Home Settings and then click your profile.
- Now click on the “Apple Music” tab under “Media”.
- Turn on “Lossless Audio” and “Dolby Atmos”.
HomePod Beta: audioOS 15 to be released this fall
Interestingly, Apple also explains the function behind each of the two switches. The company writes:
- Lossless Audio: Lossless audio files retain every detail of the original file. Enabling this option will use significantly more data.
- Dolby Atmos: Plays supported songs in Dolby Atmos and other Dolby Audio formats.
As soon as the switches are activated, the HomePods can play music in the corresponding formats. The final release of audioOS 15 will be released at the same time as iOS 15 and Co. Autumn expected. (Photo by Unsplash / Daniel Cañibano)
