Following the release of iOS 16.4.1, Apple is now rolling out a firmware update for the second and third generation AirPods, the AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max.
Today's updates follow firmware updates released for the AirPods family in January. The new firmware version for the new AirPods is 5E133. The update is available for all the AirPods models mentioned above starting today. It is an improvement over the previous firmware version 5B59. Usually, such updates only bring minor changes to the firmware of Apple's wireless earbuds. An official update description was not provided at the time of publication of this article. As you probably already know, Apple also doesn't make it easy to manually update your AirPods to new firmware versions. Instead, the company indicates that new firmware versions will be installed when the AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth.
How to check the firmware version of your AirPods
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Navigate to the Bluetooth menu.
- Find your AirPods in the list of devices.
- Tap the “i” next to them.
- Look at the “Firmware Version” number.
