Lumentum Holdings is the main supplier of the VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) components, which are responsible for face recognition in the TrueDepth camera.
The last quarter was much better than expected. Lumentum posted sales of 1.25 billion US dollars - an increase of a whopping 25 percent. Lumentum is Apple's largest Face ID component supplier. Thanks to a large order from Apple, the manufacturer's sales expectations have increased further. It is assumed that Apple will introduce three new Face ID-enabled iPhones and at least one iPad Pro with facial recognition this year.
Since the iGroup is buying up the laser components market, competitors generally have a hard time entering the business of this technology.
