Facebook has announced a new Like reaction in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic. It is intended to express care and support.
Users can currently react to posts with six different like symbols. Now, however, a seventh symbol is to be added. It shows a yellow face hugging a heart. It is intended to express care or support. Alexandru Voica explained this on Twitter:
On Facebook, we're launching a seventh reaction alongside the existing six. The new Care Reaction will roll out worldwide starting next week and will allow you to react to posts, comments, images, videos or other content in the app and on the web.
We know this is an uncertain time and we wanted people to be able to show their support in a way that lets their friends and family know they are thinking of them.
The messenger also gets a new icon
In addition to the new Care Reaction symbol, another reaction is to be introduced within Facebook Messenger. If the heart reaction is held down for a long time, a beating purple heart will appear. This is also intended to express your own care and support. It remains unclear why a different graphic is displayed in Messenger than in Facebook posts. While the new post reaction will be rolled out worldwide next week, the new graphic is to be displayed within Messenger now. (Photo by porover / Bigstockphoto)
