As expected, Apple introduced the fifth generation of the Apple Watch as part of its “By innovation only” keynote.
Apple has introduced the brand new Apple Watch Series 5 with an always-on display - the screen is permanently on. The display is dimmed until the user raises their arm or taps the screen. This is made possible by a particularly efficient energy-saving mode - while the time is displayed, the activated watch face is of course also visible. According to Apple, the battery should offer around 18 hours of battery life. The Apple Watch Series 5 will also have an integrated compass and the corresponding app.
"We've seen Apple Watch make a meaningful impact on our customers' lives, and we're excited to offer even more features with Apple Watch Series 5 and watchOS 6. The seamless integration of new hardware and software delivers an enhanced experience that makes it even easier to stay active and connected to the people and information that matter to users." – said Jeff Williams, Apple Chief Operating Officer.
The LTE models of the Apple Watch Series 5 also have an international emergency call function. This means that users of such a smartwatch can call the local emergency services in over 150 countries. The feature can be used regardless of where the watch was purchased - an iPhone is therefore not required.
