Many apps nowadays offer subscriptions – whether streaming services, productivity applications or similar. A subscription is quickly completed – even unknowingly. Now Apple has revised the confirmation process.
App fraudsters have been able to make a lot of money from accidental subscriptions. But that is now set to end. A developer recently discovered that Apple has revised the process for confirming a subscription. According to this, users must go through an additional step in order to be able to take out a subscription. After users have authenticated the process using Touch ID or Face ID, a new window will appear - "Confirm subscription". Here the user must give their approval once again to complete the subscription process. This notice is intended to combat misleading texts and clearly show users that this is an app subscription.
Unwanted subscriptions became a problem
The subscription will continue if it is not canceled in the settings at least one day before the end of the term. Accidental subscription registrations have been a big problem so far - especially for users with Touch ID iPhones. After the subscription window opened, users usually pressed the home button to close the app and cancel the process. The fact that authentication and thus subscription confirmation took place was often not registered. Apple has taken many steps to counteract problems with hidden subscriptions in iOS applications. Earlier this year, the company revised the documentation for app subscriptions and stated that developers must clearly show the subscription price and other details.
