With this new service, Apple wants to offer repairs for older devices and those that are already in vintage status.
There are many Apple fans who use old devices as well as new ones. Repairing these is usually expensive and finding replacement parts can be difficult. Apple is launching a pilot program with the new hardware support - but with restrictions. If the respective Apple Store or service provider does not have a certain component, the repair cannot be carried out.
Supported devices
Apple products that have not been produced for five to seven years are classified as discontinued devices. The iPhone 5, MacBook Air (11 inch and 13 inch, mid-2012) and iMac (21.5 and 27 inch, mid-2011 - USA and Turkey only) are currently supported by this program.
From November 30th, the iPhone 4s and MacBook Pro 15″ (mid-2012) will also be added. According to a report from MacRumors, Apple wants to expand the range to include some MacBook Pro models and a Mac Pro (mid-2012). The program is expected to run until around 2020.
